Kazan, Junior European Championships 2019
Three divers from Plymouth Diving have just represented GBR at the Junior European Championships held in Kazan, Russia. Emily Martin and platform synchro partner; Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix from Cyrstal Palace Diving Club took the crowning glory to win gold with over 20 points to spare. Martin also competed in her own individual platform event finishing 5th overall in group A.
Euan McCabe, on only his second outing for GBR added a silver to his gold which he won in Dresden earlier this year, in the group B platform competition. Two of his dives in the final scored over 70 points and he was the only diver to achieve this within his category.
Aidan Heslop narrowly missed out on a 3m synchro medal with his partner Oliver Crompton from City of Leeds Diving Club finishing 4th – less than 4 points from the bronze medal. Heslop then went on to qualify for the group A platform event with ease. After a good recovery from his first dive he went on to score an impressive 81 points on his 2nd dive bringing him back into contention. After his 5th dive Heslop was only 11.05 points off the bronze medal position leaving him in 4th postiition.
The Plymouth Divers were coached throughout the competition by Sally Freeman who normally trains Heslop and McCabe alongside Alex Rochas who trains Martin at The Plymouth Life Centre.
