Peter Waterfield Invitational Novice Diving Competition
This weekend saw the Plymouth Diving Skills Divers sponsored by Pilkington Estates get their season off to a start and testing their ability at the Peter Waterfield Invitational Novice Diving Competition at the Quays in Southampton. The small team of 5 divers were excited to compete against divers from across the South and follow up last seasons success.
First to dive was the D girls with a strong field of 28 divers trying to claim a top 3. The competition was fierce at the top with the lead changing with every dive but some superb diving from Eva Tsianavas allowed her to end the competition in a well-deserved 6th place. Hot on her heels was Teagan Mousley who produced a solid set of dives to finish 8th overall and building on the experience of last season.
Next up was the Group C girls, where hopes were high, with 2 Plymouth divers due to compete. Spurred on by some fantastic support Abigail Bishop and Mia Tickle produced some excellent diving on all boards against some very talented divers. Abigail finished in 12th place overall and less that a point from finishing in the top 10. Mia in only her second competition gained some valuable experience early in the season and finished 27th overall.
The last Plymouth diver to compete was Kaiwen Dun who was competing in the Group C boys’ competition against a smaller field of 6 divers. Kaiwen was keen to start the season as he finished the last with more medals. Some excellent dives kept him in contention throughout with the lead changing hands several times as the divers rotated around the boards. As the competition ended, he was delighted to end in the silver medal position.
The divers enjoyed their first skills competition of the year and were coached by Harry Mason and Josh Freeman.
The weekend’s success was a great start to the season and with the ongoing support of Plymouth Active Leisure and Pilkington Estates, Plymouth Diving is hoping for continued success this season.
